Gospel of the day

Matthew 23:13-22

13"But woe(A) to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you(B) shut the kingdom of heaven in people’s faces. For you(C) neither enter yourselves nor allow those who would enter to go in.[a] 15Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you travel across sea and land to make a single(D) proselyte, and when he becomes a proselyte, you make him twice as much a(E) child of(F) hell[b] as yourselves.

16"Woe to(G) you,(H) blind guides, who say,(I) 'If anyone swears by the temple, it is nothing, but if anyone swears by the gold of the temple, he is bound by his oath.' 17You blind fools! For which is greater, the gold or(J) the temple that has made the gold sacred? 18And you say, 'If anyone swears by the altar, it is nothing, but if anyone swears by(K) the gift that is on the altar, he is bound by his oath.' 19You blind men! For which is greater, the gift or(L) the altar that makes the gift sacred? 20So whoever swears by the altar swears by it and by everything on it. 21And whoever swears by the temple swears by it and by(M) him who dwells in it. 22And whoever swears by(N) heaven swears by(O) the throne of God and by(P) him who sits upon it.

St. Peter was the ultimate of all doorkeepers and his assignment tops all. Jesus entrusted to him the keys to the gates of heaven, no less. (Matthew 16:19). And so whatever Peter accepted on earth was accepted in heaven and that he declined was declined in heaven. Only later did the other disciples were given this special task (Matthew 18:18).
