Jesus Walks on the Water
22(A) Immediately he(B) made the disciples get into the boat and go before him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowds. 23And after he had dismissed the crowds,(C) he went up on the mountain by himself to pray. When(D) evening came, he was there alone, 24but the boat by this time was a long way[a] from the land,[b] beaten by the waves, for the wind was against them. 25And(E) in the fourth watch of the night he came to them, walking on the sea. 26But when the disciples saw him walking on the sea,(F) they were terrified, and said, "It is a ghost!" and they cried out in fear. 27But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, (G) "Take heart; it is I. Do not be afraid."
28And Peter answered him, "Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water." 29He said, "Come." So Peter got out of the boat and(H) walked on the water and came to Jesus. 30But when he saw the wind,[c] he was afraid, and beginning to sink he cried out,(I) "Lord, save me." 31Jesus immediately reached out his hand and took hold of him, saying to him, (J) "O you of little faith, why did you(K) doubt?" 32And when they got into the boat,(L) the wind ceased. 33And(M) those in the boat(N) worshiped him, saying,(O) "Truly you are(P) the Son of God."
Be not afraid, Take courage!
by George Bersabe In our life, it is very impossible for us to live out our faith and our life of service in the ministry without the Lord. Our union with Jesus gives us enough courage to face all the challenges in life. In the Gospel, we see Jesus praying. This He always did every day and every time He performed a miracle. On the other hand, His disciples are on the boat sailing. Later, they saw Him walking on the water. They thought of Jesus as ghost so they were frightened. This is always the situation of the disciples. They lacked courage. But when Jesus made Himself known to them “It is I! Do not be afraid,” that's the time they believed. In our life, we always want to be assured of God's presence. We don't want to be left alone. When our life is tossed about by so many trials and problems, we turn to Him to save us. Two things we learn from Peter in the Gospel: Read more
