The Foundation of our Faith |
|
Mt. 28:8-15
I t is possible that even a person without religion can have an idea of the place of the dead. Before Christianity came, the Greeks believed in Hades, a place of torment for souls who didn't do well on earth. It is a place where one can enter but can never go out. If we could see this place, said to be devoid of God, we'll do everything to avoid it.
Yet, there's the place of blessedness for souls of good people. The heart of the Christian faith is that there's Jesus who came down to the dead but came out of it after three days.
Jesus is our blessedness, the core of our faith. He was never to be contained by death but overcome it. His resurrection means we, His followers, shall conquer death too. Imagine if Jesus did not rise from the dead, what could be the bedrock of our faith? It's hard to believe in something without a proof. Yet, it makes us believe in something, such as the place of the dead, as Jesus experienced it and thus hope that we too shall win life in the end.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, You have conquered sin and death with Your resurrection. May we do the same as we trust and hope in You. Amen. |
