Knowing Jesus

Jn. 8:31-42

I
sometimes think about my own death and I realize it s not death itself that I fear, but the manner of my death and if in the process I would need huge sums that would put me and my family in financial distress.

Why I am comforted to face my own passing is because I truly believe there is God. I often recall this wonderful story about a dog finding his way to the hospital corridor and stopping at one of the doors wagging his tail and letting out gleeful barks. He was sure his master was inside, there on the bed, though he couldn t see him.

We sometimes ask for so many questions about God, but once we know Him, all doubts disappear. In today's Gospel, Jesus has quite a lengthy discussion with the Jews about Himself being of the Father. For indeed how can they know Him when they don't know the Father?

In the same way, no one can face death bravely unless he knows where he is going after this life. God has given us that certainty about Himself, His coming to us to bring us to His kingdom.

Thus, there are no fears or doubts. We don t even ask for proof when Jesus says He is the way, the truth and the life for we simply feel Him as we acknowledge that we are of God and not of this world.

Prayer:

Lord Jesus, thank You for the privilege of knowing You. Hold us more closely each day, for being with You makes us be with the Father. Amen.
