U nder the law, for us to prove our claims, we need a witness to support our plea. One needs the vital role of a witness to win his case. The defendant alone cannot prove that he is right unless a witness testifies strongly and convincingly for him. In today’s Gospel, Jesus's detractors refused to accept His divine authority and claim to be the only begotten Son of God. They demanded evidence of His Messianic claims. He cited John the Baptist as a witness, as he publicly pointed to Jesus as the Messiah. Jesus even strengthened His assertions by the miracles and signs He has performed, which, an ordinary human being cannot do.
We, too, are called to be Jesus's witnesses. As we take a look in our world today, people rely more on their own strength and capabilities. Their focus is more on life’s survival and convenience rather than the salvation of their souls.
God does not expect us to do marvelous things to be His witnesses. We can do our part by sharing our own personal testimonies on how the Lord has touched our lives. We can be God’s witnesses by being good examples in our work, at school or at home. We can celebrate every little blessing we receive by acknowledging the goodness of the Lord, who is the provider of all good things in this world. In this way, we can show the people around us that God is indeed alive. His presence is very evident no matter how fast-paced the life in this world is. We can survive life because we have God who is far more capable to do great things for us rather than relying on our own strength.
Friends, God is blessing us each day. Let us be a living witness of His Greatness and Love.
Prayer:
Lord, empower us with Your Holy Spirit. Help us to acknowledge every little blessing that we receive from You. Give us the boldness to proclaim Your Goodness and become Your Living Witnesses. Amen. |
