Standing Up for a Choice

Lk. 11:14-23

W
e often hear the idiom “make a stand.”  We make a stand when we give our best effort to defend a choice or decision.

Oftentimes, we face a situation in our life when we need to make a stand for something. When conflicts arise, we need to pick a choice and uphold the principles we believe in.

In politics, we do the same way, we vote for the leaders whom we trust and stand up for their leadership platform. In love, we always strive to support our partner and defend our relationship when detractors come our way.

There is no room for neutralism in this world.  Being neutral will lead to your own destruction because you allow both forces to control you. You will never win, basically because you have not taken your step to make a choice and defend it.

In today’s Gospel, Jesus teaches us to do likewise in our Christian life.  As Luke 11:23 says, “He who is not with me is against me, and he who does not gather with me scatters.”

There are only two choices - either we are for God or against Him.  We cannot say we are for Christ, and the other half of our life is still in darkness.  If we allow it that way, Satan always has his own way of stealing the other half, tempting us to splurge in our own sinful desires in order for him to completely take control of our lives.

Easier said than done, we cannot win the battle of choosing good from evil alone.  Every day, we need to ask God to give us the grace to face and overcome our own personal struggles.

Friends, we just need to make a decision -  a decision that we are for Jesus.  If we acknowledge that we belong to Him, then the blessing and anointing of God will always be upon us, more than enough to withstand whatever temptations that will come our way.

As it is written in Psalm 91:9-11, “Because you have made the Lord your refuge, the Most High your habitation, no evil shall befall you, no scourge come near your tent. For he will give his angels charge of you to guard you in all your ways.”

Prayer:

Father, we all belong to You.  We are Your own. Give us the grace that we need that we may win our own battle here on earth.  Without You, we are nothing; but with You, we can do all things. Amen.
