M any seem to dislike the ironclad culture in Singapore. But frankly, it sometimes works when the only alternative is chaos. I thought Manuel L. Quezon might be short-sighted when he said he would prefer to see the Philippines run like hell by Filipinos than like heaven by Americans. Look at where we are now.
I am both amused and irked that we have this penchant for chaos, that we like to see clutter everywhere. Only because our alternative is discipline and we find that restrictive.
The truth is, to have order in our lives, we need rules, where in the process we have to sacrifice some of our freedoms. That's exactly the dilemma of most Christians - to have laws around them or have all the freedom they want. As Christians, there are many things we can't do because we are governed by laws - think of the Ten Commandments. But what should we rather have - that or the disorder in the absence of rules? Our God is a God of order and He wants that legacy implanted in our hearts as His children.
Prayer:
Lord, show us Your laws and help us to obey. For You desire order in our lives and out of love You have fashioned regulations for us Your children. Amen. |
