by Lito Dawa Mt. 9: 14-15
T wo days ago, we celebrated Ash Wednesday to mark the start of the Lenten Season. During the Mass, we were reminded that we came from dust and we will return to dust. Some of the faithful Catholics started to fast that day with a great anticipation for the resurrection of our Lord Jesus. Fasting is a sign of mourning. We mourn if we don’t have God in our life, if we disobey Him. A life away from Jesus is full of miseries, sufferings, emptiness, discontentment and lacking of meaning. But if we have God in our hearts, our lives will be filled with joy, unexplainable happiness, satisfaction in the simplest things and meaning.
Fasting would be inappropriate at this time of joy, when Jesus is proclaiming the kingdom, as it would be at a marriage feast. A full-blown and a committed relationship with the Lord will lead us to a holy life, free from inadequacies and wickedness and from any form of sin.
We can easily resist temptation because of our strong spiritual union with the Lord. Victory is always at hand and it always calls for a celebration. If God is with us and is consistently with us, then every day is a joyous moment. This will become a timeless joy to be shared with our fellowmen. I can honestly say that my life is without meaning if I don’t have Jesus with me. He makes me complete with His mere presence and motivates me to continue the mission He gave me notwithstanding the many trials, sufferings and failures I encounter along the way. My joy is complete every time He’s at my side.
Friends, Jesus doesn’t want to make our life miserable. He teaches us to live life well, to enable us to respond to every different moment in ways proper to that moment; often with joy, sometimes with renewed commitment to begin again to live life as God means us to live it.
Never allow yourself to leave Jesus, not even a single second. All the riches this world can offer is nothing compared to Jesus who will satisfy our every need. If you want to experience eternal joy, you know what to do - commit your life to Jesus.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, a moment with You is always full of blessings, healings and miracles. May all of us recognize that You alone can make our life and joy complete. Amen. |
