Lk. 5:1-11
H as the Lord done you a favor lately? Peter in today's Gospel experienced a most amazing thing - catching boatloads of fish in waters that were previously barren. God makes many great things in our lives and the moment we realize He has done as one, we see our smallness and comes out almost ashamed for receiving such an accommodation.
It's because we're never worthy for His great gifts and so Peter, overwhelmed by the fabulous catch, asked the Lord to leave him.
Yet, he knew there was something in store for him. Rightly so, for thereafter Jesus called him to be a fisher of men. God does not choose the great among us, but the lowly ones like Peter who can see His bigness.
The Lord gives, first of all out of love for us. Some are more equal than others. To whom greater favors are given, the Lord is exacting a recompense - to tell others of these miracles.
We have to experience God first before we can share stories about Him with others. And God makes sure we have almost bigger-than-life tales that would make others curious and interested.
For as we were chosen, so will the others be, notwithstanding their own limitations. They, too, will experience God's most wonderful gifts.
So how has God changed your life? Will you tell others about it? Will you share Jesus with others? The more you have got, the greater and more urgent for you to tell others about God!
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, Your love for us is great and abounding. Teach us the ways of Your heart, come into our life today so we can proclaim Your goodness and greatness to others. Not out of duty, but out of love and gratitude. In the name of Jesus, through whom all great things are wrought, this we ask. Amen. |
