A t the airport, you can easily recognize Filipinos from other nationalities. We love to carry lots of things during our travel. It would surely be hard for us to fit all our things in one luggage because we are really fond of bringing all stuff, which we feel are necessary when we are away from our home. In today’s Gospel, Jesus taught His disciples to do the opposite. He advised them to take nothing on their journey except a staff, and to wear sandals. Simply said, He wanted His disciples to “travel light.”
Before, I was a person who wanted so much in life. I loved being attuned to fashion and technology. I dreamed of having my own house and business. I wanted to travel to different places. I planned to advance in my career and I set out rules and strategies so that it would be easier for me to accomplish all these things.
When I started serving God in my ministry, I have seen myself sorting out my priorities between “wants” and “needs.” As I detached little by little from my “wants” and started focusing on my “needs,” it made me realize the value of God’s provisions in my life. It helped me to make more time for my ministry and to value life not based on material possessions, but on the value we can give to every people we touch. Friends, life is simple, let us not complicate it. When we start unpacking our personal luggage and sort the important from what is not, only then will we realize how free it is to live life. God is instructing us to do the same like His disciples. Let us leave our baggage in God’s hands and enjoy the journey of life in the lightness of His Spirit.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, free us from all attachments in this world and help us to pursue the things for heaven. Give us the grace to trust You more and offer our future to Your loving care. Amen. |
