W hen God created the world (Gen. 1:3), He first said, “Let there be light!” and there was light. Light is very important because without it, life is so vague. We appreciate the beauty of God’s creation because there is light. Also, light illumines the world and allows us to witness the goodness and greatness of God our Creator. In today’s Gospel, Jesus speaks about the lamp that should not be put under a bushel or bed, but it should be placed on a stand. Its purpose is to give light in darkness and not allow anyone to stumble.
God is the image of light in our lives. When we live in sin, we know that we are groping in the dark. There is no peace and joy in our hearts. We find it hard to take the right direction basically because we are apart from the source of light Himself- Jesus.
When we sin, we try to hide the truth from people and from God. We exert all our efforts just to keep it secret. We may be able to conceal everything from the world, but never from the Lord. We cannot deceive God.
On the other hand, joy and freedom reign in our hearts when we follow Christ. His light shines in our lives and blesses us abundantly. We live in peace because everything is known before God and the world.
Even if the world hates us because we uphold the truth, still, we know we have nothing to fear because God, who sees everything, will always defend us.
Friends, we are bearers of God’s light if we live in accordance with His Gospel. If each one of us follows Christ faithfully, our lives will shine and will bring hope to the people around us.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, may Your Light shine in our lives and help us to share this light to others. Amen. |
