Losing Focus on the Mission Bro. Lito Dawa Oct. 7, 2009 Is our goal in the mission clear to us? When we're so comfortable with our tasks, that could be dangerous. From time to time, we all lose focus. We start out on a journey heading toward the goal and along the way, distractions come. These distractions begin to draw us away from our intended goal and we lose focus. We live in a high-tech world, there are so many distractions.
As Jesus' followers, we are called by Paul to "press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus" (Phil. 3:14). But our enemy wants to distract us from that goal. He knows that he will render us ineffective if he can get us off track with God's plan.
We must learn to discern the distractions that the devil brings along and ignore them and say "No!" to them.
These distractions may be sin, they might be activities that take us away from the things that we know the Lord wants us to do, or they could be worries about things going on around us. Refocusing back on the goal We need to revisit why we are doing what we are doing. As Jesus' followers, we need to follow the direction of Christ Jesus when He stated the two most important commandments.
Our goal should be to love God with everything that we are, and love our neighbor as ourselves (Mt. 22:36-40). That's it. That's what we are called by Jesus to do.
The goal hasn't changed
This is consistent with what God has always called the nation of Israel to do as well. "Love the Lord, your God, will all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength" (Deut. 6:5). "Don't seek revenge or bear a grudge against any one of your people, but love your neighbor as yourself. I am the Lord" (Lev. 19:18).
God has been calling His creation to this type of righteousness all along. This would suggest that it is very important to Him for us to live our lives this way. We can love our neighbors without loving God, but we can't love God without loving our neighbors. Summing up the focus of our lives Many people these days are struggling to find meaning and purpose in their lives. We struggle to understand what our goal should be, where God is calling us to, and how we can be most effective. This is not a new struggle. Let us ask God for our purpose in life.
It comes down to honorng and respecting God for who He is, the Almighty Creator of Everything, and loving God and your neighbor. Following this plan will bring you meaning, purpose and fulfillment in your life.
"But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you" (Mt. 6:33).
