Getting our Priorities Right

Bro. Rene Tumang     Nothing in our lives is as important as seeking God and obeying Him. Is there anything more important? To seek, obey God - this is the summit of our Christian life.

"Obey me and I will be your God and you will be my people. Walk in all the ways that I command you, so that you may prosper" (Jer. 7:23).

Mother Teresa said, "I think today the world is upside down. There is so much suffering and so much unhappiness in the world, everybody seems to be in such a terrible rush, anxious for greater developments and greater riches and so on."

In Japan, people walk fast on the streets; and so people in New York, Europe. They look like they are chasing something that is a matter of life and death. What could they be running for?

We answer questions quite as swiftly, without thinking. I'm sure that like anybody else, we're rushing to get money. But I notice that those who earn much are the unhappiest. The more they earn, the more they are tired.

     Three questions to ask:

     1. What are you really aiming at?

St. Paul wrote, " This one thing I do...I press towards the mark" (Phil. 3:14).
What you set your heart on will determine how you will spend your life. What you set in your heart will move you to action. The passion in our hearts will be the driver of our desires.

What are you aspiring for? Let's not forget we have a spiritual life. We should have a spiritual dream, this  one for our relationship with God.

     2. Who is creating your world?

What is running your life? What you commit yourself to be will change you from what you are into what you become. Our strength and determination are not enough, let's trust in God. "Lord, if it's not your will, don't allow it to happen."

The truth is, it's the world that often drives our life. Or, our friends. We don't think of what God wants for us. But our goal should be God.

    3. Are you still growing, or just growing older?

You cannot become what you are destined to be by remaining what you are. You will not last long if you are stagnant. You should be doing a different thing. Explore. The Spirit of God will drive you to where you will excel.

Are we maturing or just counting years? Spiritual maturity is seen in our attitude, in how we perform in our ministry. If our ministry is not growing, we have a problem. Our growth should make us have a meaningful life. When Jesus came into the lives of Mother Mary and Zaccheus, they made an instant decision to accept Him. Mary said, "Let it be done to me according to Your word."

Why can't we make the same commitment as fast as we do with the world? It takes us time to decide, that's why God's blessings come late to us. Command yourself and make yourself follow this command for the Lord to be blessed.

Let us be prayerful and vigilant in choosing our priorities. Think of every situation where you will stand in the midst of...

Opportunities in the absence of Family Ties

Money in the absence of Respect

Believing in the absence of a Deeper Relationship with God

Modern World in the absence of Simple Living

Our priorities will create us. If God is our priority, God will create us.
