"G o out and register."
This is what you see in every place in Metro Manila announcing and encouraging voters, especially the youth, to go out and register for the upcoming 2010 elections. I think all of us are called to go out not just to register but to voice out through our votes the sentiments of many of us, we who are undergoing a lot of hardships. It is time for a change and to make such change possible, we need to vote righteous leaders.
In the same way in the Gospel, Jesus is telling His disciples: Go out into the whole world and proclaim the Good News to all creation. Let your voices be heard! Let your actions be counted!
What is the message of this feast of the Ascencion to us? This feast reminds us about our Baptismal promises: To reject Satan and all his works, to avoid temptations, to embrace the Lord Jesus and to live out our faith in Him.
To live out one's faith is to be a steward of life... a life in the Spirit. We are sent to be witnesses of Jesus into the world which is suffering from D.E.A.T.H. and so much poverty brought about by man's greediness to power and material things.
We are not alone. Ours is a crusade to battle the hunger of people for the Word of God. Those who are in this mission, be it a lay preacher or a member of a religious community, are all in the same advocacy: To free our country from its illnesses and evil.
But for us to gain this, one has to humble himself, bow down to the Lord and repent. God who is merciful and just will heal the land of our people.
We are called to lead a good example of a true Christian life rooted on the Word of God for the service of the Church. This is not easy because we are still wordly. Our human nature operates in opposite of God.
But we can overcome them through the power of the Holy Spirit. Jesus is sending us to go forth and let our voices and our prayers be heard, and our actions be seen.
There is no end to this battle. As long as there are poor hungry children, homeless families, and sick nations in need of healing, missionaries are summoned, lay workers are called upon to respond to the cry of the poor.

Lord, Your Ascension inspires us to go out and proclaim Your Word. May You be with us as we go forth. Stay with us Lord especially in difficult times of our service to You. We all believe Lord that we can't do this without Your guiding Spirit. Amen. |
