| God's representatives |
|
Many say that God’s commandments are difficult to follow. God is a God of impossibility but God can never be an impossible God. Ecclesiastes 12:13 speaks, “Have fear in the Lord and follow His commandments for that is the only way to live”. We are not restrained, however, from following our free will as long as our actions are still in accordance with the will of God. God created us; therefore, we are made to follow His commandments. As His followers, we are considered as God’s representatives. And as God’s representatives, His body must manifest in our actions. Ultimately, His presence should be felt through us. It is a tough task to be known by others for what we do. Our ministry should be a manifestation of God’s ministry. Do we create comfort or fear every time we are in the presence of others? Do we create fear to evildoers and comfort to the lonely? Do they see God in us? Are we Christ-like? As God’s representatives, we are destined to be the extensions of the Father’s ministrations to the world. He uses us as His instruments. He creates through our hands. He speaks through our voices. He works through our labors of love. He gives light to others through the beam of our lives. As God’s representatives, we are shaped to be teachable. Being teachable opens up people to Christ’s ministrations. If His primary ministry is teaching and He is a teacher, we as His children should be teachable. Jesus wants all of us to join His ministry. He purifies us through the ministries we are in. His teaching should manifest in us through our God-given gifts/skills/talents. In our lifetime, there should be progression, not retrogression nor stagnation. We should veer away from doing things out of mere habit. There are times when we have to adapt to unfamiliar grounds, thus, the need to modify our ways. We must embrace change. The Word of God does not change. But the means by which we communicate the Word could change. Our life should not be left in the cold recesses of a frozen state. There should be the warmth of balance. We all need instructions. The Lord teaches people through people because there is so much to learn from people. To quote a line from Desiderata, “Listen even to the smallest because they too have their stories.” Our being teachable refines our personality. It makes us desirable. And when we are desirable, other people will like us more. And since they like us more, they become nicer to us. And when they become nicer to us, we enjoy life and we enjoy working together. The challenge, depth and beauty of representing God is beyond the surface. Being a representative of God is not a title to win but a vow to keep. Being a bearer of the Good News takes a lifelong wide-awake commitment. In the core of God’s herald, there is no room for complacency nor self-gratification. Standing up for Jesus takes a lifetime of kneeling down.
