Pentecost Sunday

We celebrate Pentecost Sunday today, seven weeks after Easter and 50 days after the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. Today, we honor the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles.

Pentecost is a celebration of congregation where people rejoice and present their love offerings to the Lord.

In the festivity, three groups of people usually gather. They are as follows: chaotic, esoteric and ecstatic. The chaotics (“malinggatong” in the vernacular, meaning “deep”) are the first group of people who gather and they include the bizarres and the bazaars.

The bizarres crop up just to see what happens while the bazaars go there for business. Meanwhile, the esoterics show up because of personal interests and hidden agenda; they love to show off for fame, too. Lastly, the ecstatics speak in tongues with overwhelming joy. They speak good words about God and other people; they serve as light to humanity.

     Pentecost reminds us these essentials:

It is an offering of our best. The gift of understanding amid difference is achieved. Thus, diversity is destroyed in the concept of Pentecost. People become more and more rather than less and less. People are better, kinder and more spirited. People are able to do something greater and more different. People are able to face life challenges with breeze. People are capable of giving their best.
